Work Zone Awareness Week

As part of National Work Zone Awareness Week, the American Traffic Safety Services Association sponsored a poster contest for students from kindergarten through grade six. The theme of the contest was Life Behind the Cones and Barrels - How Roadway Workers Keep America Moving. The Pennsylvania chapter of the foundation sponsored a statewide contest, in addition to the national contest. The winners of the statewide competition are shown below.

Winners

Kindergarten and first grade

First place - Madeline Healey, Grade 1, Robert Morris Elementary School, Scranton

Second Place - Raven Jones, Grade 1, Blairsville Elementary, Blairsville

Third place - Makenna Shaner, Grade 1, Union (Sligo) Elementary School, Sligo

Grades 2-4

First place - Jessica Miller, Grade 2, Halifax Elementary, Halifax

Second place - Noah Neubert, Grade 4, Eldred Elementary, Kunkletown

Third place - Alex Keiser, Grade 3, Tunkhannock Area School District, Tunkhannock

Grades 5-6

First place - Chris Bixler, Grade 6, Mechanicsburg Middle School, Mechanicsburg

Chris also captured first place in the national competition for grades four to six and received $300 for his winning entry.

Second place - Jacob Van Slyke, Grade 6, St. James School, Erie

Third place - Michaela Susko , Grade 5, Our Lady of Hungary Regional School, Northampton
